According to various analysts, the LED market will keep on soaring in 2014. The year 2013 had a market volume of 12,5 billion USD and this number is expected to grow by 7% in the year 2014 to 13,4 billion USD.
The year 2013 has already seen new major industry protagonists like Philips and Osram shifting their business strongly towards LED. Osram is currently reorganizing its production and intents to completely focus on LED-products. After the announcement of the reorganization of its business, Osram’s shares increased their value by 50% in only several months.
Some major trends in 2014 as expected by the pundits:
-
Growing sales of LED bulbs and tubes within the non-commercial indoor lighting sector due to ever increasing electricity tariffs, particularly in Europe.
-
Increased demand for LED outdoor lighting solutions within commercial and technical/industrial areas.
-
Enhanced request for LED-street lamps due to a favourable maintenance cost factor. Directional light emission and improved colour rendering index of LED street lamps will lead to the increased replacement of high pressure sodium street lamps.
-
High power LEDs will increasingly be replaced by efficient Mid Power LED packages with more favourable price.
-
OLED is far from being major in its development and will also have no breakthrough in 2014.
These are some major trends being predicted in this year. Additionally the application of new regulations such as the European ErP-Ecodesign-Directive (2009/125/DC) and regulation Nr. 1194/2012 will lead to the development of more efficient power supply solutions and light sources in general. sm.
