Philips releases “DigiStreet”09-08-2016
As it was announced by Philips, a new street lamp type named “DigiStreet” has been released which is targeted at the European market. Each lamp’s specification can be identified through a QR code on a “service tag” which is located on the bottom of the lamp. The code can be scanned with a smartphone respectively through a Philips App and shows the. Using the smartphone APP, the engineer can identify and order spare parts or even program them directly through NFC technology. The latter allows easy commissioning and fast access to maintenance information.
As Philips pointed out, DigiStreet allows energy savings of 40% compared to traditional street lighting. DigiStreet has different connection options. On top of the lamp there is a socket which can be connected to a Philips “CityTouch” connector. With the CityTouch connector, a wireless connection to the Philips CityTouch streetlight management system can be established which allows a remote monitoring, control and management of each lamp.

As Philips explains, such remote control functions will allow another energy savings of 30%, amounting to a total saving of 70% compared to traditional street lighting. Another clear advantage is the reduction of maintenance cost as the lamps’ status can continuously be monitored by an operator without driving around and looking for faults. CityTouch finally offers a complete workflow management to manage all lamps efficiently.
The lamp has another universal socket on the bottom to which different types of sensors, such as motion diming sensors, traffic monitoring sensors, air quality sensors and more can be added. DigiStreet as well has an in-built “Sensor Ready Driver” named Philips Xitanum which allows a wide variety of sensors to be connected with the lamps.
As Philips stressed different cities in different locations worldwide do not have the same level of request for their street lighting from day one. DigiStreet will enable municipalities to upgrade the lamps’ functions flexibly. Gm.
