As it has been released by Niagara Falls Park, almost 20 years since the last major investment in fall lighting the existing Xenon lights have been replaced with LED lighting. High intensity discharge lamps (HID) as the previously installed Xenon lamps do not only have a much higher energy-consumption than LED lighting, but also a very limited range of color temperatures. The recently installed LED lights offer a solution for both with energy savings of 82% compared to HID and a much broader range of color temperatures.
HID lamps have traditionally been used in areas where high levels of visible light have been requested. However, the latest developments in the LED industry with ever higher levels of luminous efficacy have led to a vast replacement of traditional gas discharge lamps in many areas such as industrial & commercial areas or sport stadiums. Particularly LED flood lights and LED high bay lamps are applied in such cases.
Another advantage of the LED lighting as installed at the Niagara Falls is its enhanced programmability. With the new LED lighting, visitors of the Niagara Falls experience now a more dramatic illumination with twice as high lighting levels as before. The lighting spectacle can be observed by visitors every evening whilst color sequences are programmed in two ways, randomly multicolor and customized in special colors to mark significant dates.
