As it was reported on Arab News, Philips has entered into a new cooperation with Ahmed Abdulwahed Trading Company of Saudi Arabia. The cooperation with this powerful retailer aims to sell Philips lighting and home products through an established and vast distribution network.
Philip’s new move has followed the decision of the Saudi government to strongly reduce energy waste and promote the use of energy-efficient lighting. Interestingly the Saudi government aims to reduce subsidies not only on electrical energy, but also on oil.

The governmental move has been described as a firm decision to reduce the overall level of energy consumption in the country. The Saudi government is targeting both, the reduction of electricity consumption and general energy consumption which it considers to be too high. For example the global average of electricity consumption for lighting in homes and retail stores accounts for 15%, whilst in Saudi Arabia it accounts for 17%. Thus, the lighting area has thus been recognized by Philips as a key area in order to achieve the Saudi’s government ambitious targets of energy savings.
Philips currently runs three factories in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and has traditionally worked close together with local governmental institutions in order to promote the use of energy-saving LED lighting. The new cooperation will now certainly improve the availability and diversity of LED lighting products on the Saudi market.sm.
