SSC releases new “Sunlike” Technology09-08-2017
As Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) has announced on its website, the new Sunlike technology is now ready to enter the markets. Sunlike removes excessive LED blue light by replacing the LED blue light source with a purple colour LED chip. As SSC furthermore points out, an ordinary LED spectrum is very different from sunlight, whilst under its new Sunlike technology illuminated objects appear as they would under sunlight.

With its new technology SSC tackles a major problem of LED SSL which is well-known as the “blue energy peak”. The new Sunlike technology thus intends to provide a light more friendly to the human eye and an improved lighting environment in general with a high level of CRI (color rendering index).

As SSC stated, the new technology is suitable to be applied in areas like museums, retail, hospitality and health care where high quality lighting conditions are essential.

Next to the application of purple color LED chips, SSC applies Toshiba’s “TRI-R” phosphor which is another distinctive difference to traditional LEDs using yellow phosphor on blue LEDs. As SSC finally stated, the new technology will firstly applied within COB (chip on board) packages, as these are the ones currently most widely used in directional lighting for the commercial sector.
