As LEDVANCE has announced, it will recall more than 50.000 recessed downlights called “canister light kits” after receiving reports from customers
The canister light kits have short cut circuit problems which leads to flickering of the lamps. When customers try to fix the flickering problem, they face the danger of receiving even fatal electric shocks.
The recalled light kits were not sold directly to customers but to industrial and commercial distributors. However, about 45.000 units have been sold in the United States and about 11,000 units in Canada which made it necessary to recall these units from the markets.
LEDVANCE instructed consumers immediately to stop using the recalled canister light kits and contact the firm for free replacement and installation by a technician. Warnings and instructions must be followed to disconnect power prior to servicing, removing or replacing the recalled products.
LEDVANCE is the former general lighting section of OSRAM which has been acquired by the Chinese investment company MLS in March 2017. On North American markets LEDVANCE operates its business under the brand name SYLVANIA. sm.
