Osram finally sells off its general lighting business in North America16-01-2019
As Osram has released on its website, has sold off its lighting business brand Sylvania Lighting Solutions (SLS) to Wesco internationally and hereby has factually terminated its engagement in general lighting sales on the North American markets.
Already in 2016 Osram had spun off its general lighting business to Ledvance and following this Sylvania received a license to distribute lighting products under the brand names of Osram and Sylvania in North America. Sylvania so far had sold lighting products for industrial, entertainment, medical, and smart building and city applications as well as products for the automotive aftermarket.

Sylvania’s buyer Wesco, multinational electronics distribution- and service-company based in Pittsburgh (USA), was described by Osram as “the best new owner for the services business with approximately 220 employees and annual sales of more than 100 million US dollars”.
The transaction is expected to close in the first calendar quarter of 2019 and the purchase price is in the double-digit million euro range. As Osram has stated the sales of Sylvania is “a further progress toward becoming a photonics champion is Photonics”, indicating that the photon light business with applications like transmission, saving and editing of information will play an increased role in future.gm.
