As Osram has released on its website, the company has developed a new SMD high power LED for the application in flashlights and work lamps. The new high power LED “Osconiq P3030” has an excellent performance in terms of brightness and is especially suitable for the illumination of labor areas such as construction sites during long hours in the evening and night. Osram furthermore points out the reliability and long-lasting performance of the LED which reaches more than 70.000 hours.
Osconiq P3030 combines lead-frame technology with high-performance chips for the application in high-volume products in general lighting. Compared with the ceramic packages commonly used in this field, As Osram explained, “…The new package provides customers a more robust component with a longer lifetime. The specially developed SMD (Surface Mounted Device) package with silicone lens provides outstanding brightness and efficiency values, as well as a better lumens-per-dollar ratio than ceramic packages used in similar applications.”

Currently two CRI versions are available, CRI 70 and CRI 80, including the complete CCT range for different applications such as professional indoor or outdoor lighting solutions. The CRI 70 version is available in a CCT range from 2,700 K to 6,500 K, the CRI 80 version covers the range from 2,200 – 5,000 K. Both products have compact dimensions of 3.0 mm x 3.0 mm and a height of only 1.63 mm, enabling space-saving luminaire designs.
As Osram pointed out, the previously-used ceramic components can now be replaced easily. Osconiq P3030 is a 1 mm² chip and in the CRI 70 version reaches a very high brightness level of 160 lm at 5,000K with an impressive efficiency of 161 lm/W. The CRI 80 version reaches 135 lm at 3,000 K with an efficiency 136 lm/W. Both components can be operated with high currents up to 1.3 Ampere and simplify system design with a low thermal resistance.
According to Osram’s press release, the two white LEDs will be joined later this year by color versions in deep blue (450 nm), blue (470 nm), true green (528 nm), red (623 nm), hyper red (660 nm) and far red (730 nm) for professional horticulture and outdoor lighting.sm.
