Osram introduces lighting concepts for hospitals28-11-2019
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) has recently been the topic of various discussions within the lighting industry. As Osram released on its website, there are 5 core strategies to be considered in HCL.
Flexibility
Flexible lighting systems can be adjusted to the needs of patients and working staff in healthcare facilities. Apart from the lighting in different spaces can be adjusted if the usage in these spaces changes as it is often the case in hospitals.
Enhancing Staff’s Efficiency
Patient rooms may require adjustable lighting levels related to natural day- and night time, the working areas of the staff require brighter lights. By personalizing the lighting in different areas, the work efficiency of the staff can be enhanced considerably.
Natural light indoors
Referring to one of the main principles of Human Centric Lighting, Osram pointed furthermore out, that an emulation of the outdoor lighting levels inside the healthcare facilities is of crucial importance. This does not only enhance the working staff’s mood, but considerably improves the sleep mood of patients. For that reason as much natural light as possible should be “harvested” from the outside during day time.
Reduce Noise
Applying the right construction materials for healthcare facilities and at the same time reducing the light levels during times like e.g., visiting hours, creates an atmosphere in which patients can easier relax, recover and sleep.
Improve Retail Space
Healthcare organizations shall include more retail stores that offer health and wellness items such education materials, healthy cookbooks, athletic apparel and even medical equipment. Others target specific demographics such as oncology patients, where staff are available to help fit patients with wigs or prosthetics. Fm.
