As Everlight has released on its website, the company has successfully developed a new UVC LED that can effectively eradicate SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a specific wavelength and thus suppress the Covid-19 transmission.

Ever since its appearance Covid 19 (which led eventually to SARS-CoV-2) has been a severe threat to human health in the world. After the outbreak it soon became clear that it is the most effective way to prevent a pandemic by preventing the spread of transmissions at the first place. This can happen through the interrupting of the so-called “path of the virus spread”.
As Everlight pointed out, UV LED is often used improperly for disinfection due to the lack of understanding of users.  Even the best technology cannot render satisfactory results if it is applied improperly in real-life situations. Therefore, an essential part of the newest UVC LED project included the education of the public about wavelength characteristics and the need to expose surfaces for a sufficient time to reduce SARS-CoV-2.

Everlight conducted laboratory tests based on fixed distance and time. UVC light prototype devices with a wavelength of 275nm (UVC LED), 254nm (mercury lamp) and 222 nm (excimer lamp) were separately tested. This allowed exact calculations according to TCID50 and LRV (Log-Reduction Value) about the efficiency of different light sources reducing the virus.

The results showed that the ability to reduce the virus was much better at 275 nm than at those of 222 nm and 254 nm. UVC LED at 275nm wavelength with an irradiance of 79.8 μW/cm2 performed best in comparison. Disinfection rates as high as 99.99% and 99.9999% could be achieved after application times of 5 seconds and 10 seconds, respectively.sm.
