Constant current power supply features10-07-2025
A frequent question of purchasers refers to the type of power supply that it used for LED lighting, namely constant current power supplies. At FecosLED we mainly use constant current power supplies for several reasons.

Constant current power supplies (AKA “constant current drivers”) guarantee stable current regulation: Providing a steady current to LEDs, ensuring consistent brightness and color across all LEDs in series, preventing fluctuations and flickering. At the same time they prevents current overloads and thermal runaway, reducing the risk of overheating and damage, which extends the lifespan of LED lights (reduced brightness decay).

Constant current drivers are ideal for applications requiring uniform illumination, such as architectural lighting, retail displays, healthcare, and stage/theater lighting where stable lighting is critical. The consistency of light output of an LED lamp essentially depends on the consistency of the current output. Another advantage is a more efficient energy use by delivering the exact required current, avoiding waste and reducing electricity costs over time. This is a decisive advantage in the ages of the “green deal”.

Furthermore constant current power suppliers enhanced inbuilt saftey such as overcurrent protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), over temperature protection (OTP), overvoltage protection (OVP), input and output fuses that can break the circuit in case of faults, isolation barriers that separate the input from the output side to protect end users, temperature sensors that can trigger shutdowns EMI/RFI filters that reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference and the compliance with international certifications like CE, FCC, UL, IEC and others.

Constant current drivers are also superior when it comes to dimming: Better control and predictable luminosity, important for professional lighting setups like theaters and surgical environments.

Given the above-mentioned advantages like user safety, stable and consistent current flow (that is essential for maintaining uniform brightness), color stability, and longevity of LED lamps (typical warranty periods up to 5 years), we recommend constant current power supplies for the majority of our lamp assortment.
